The KGIOP is happy to present a new project, “Heritage Routes”. Committee members will offer various tour programs dedicated to the history of architecture and urban development of St. Petersburg to city residents and guests.

Any visitor of the Committee website can download the materials and set off on a tour to discover new corners of St. Petersburg without having to follow the group and stick to the schedule.

Smart phone users with the QR code reader can download a short booklet with maps and the description of the route, which will be linked to the full version of the tour during the walk itself.

The cycle opens with the route along Obvodny Canal. It was first designed by Valentina Lelina, one of the leading experts in the field of industrial architecture.

This project became a part of the Year of Heritage program, being implemented by the KGIOP in 2015, as we celebrate 70th anniversary of the Leningrad School of Restoration and the 25th anniversary of inscription “Historic Centre of St. Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments” on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This project seeks to protect and promote World Heritage and include St. Petersburg into the European network of cultural routes, which is being developed in accordance with the ICOMOS Charter on Cultural Routes.

These routes may span separate components and elements of the site “Historic Centre of St. Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments”, and other World Heritage sites on the territory of the Russian Federation.
